Assume avoiding Tahiti would be a good thing. You'd need to thread through the Visayas circa Dec. to avoid the typhoon season (typhoons in that region seem to be routine through Nov., despite the official end of the bad season. If 9 months is too fast, where to hang out (that won't break the bank) for the better part of a year to catch the next year's windows?

Seems foolish to make a dash west for NZ or OZ when a short trip up to some equatorial paradise would accomplish the same thing: safety from rotating storms. The trip can be continued a few months later when the threat is reduced.
