Livia, I have been as far north as Rupert and Have the following observations; Don't rush things there is plenty to see from Rupert South. IMHO the interesting thing on this coast is East and West and not North and South. In the interior the mountains are 4000' with hanging snow and on the coast the islets are 35' teaming with life. The Northern treck is a highway with lots of trees repeated over and over. Eucot bay behind Bela Bella has a hot springs 50 meters from the water. I was the only boat there. No matter how you cut it the PNW is the best cruising ground in the world, Enjoy at slow speed!
Regards, JG

I was once in Bella Coola and was amazed by how steep and beautiful the mountains are up in that area. I think Nanaimo and Comox are great areas to use as a home base. There are tons of great islands. Have fun

The only problem with the area Desolation Sound and South is Seattle. The Seattle Bayliner group with a scant 2 weeks of vacation can make it to DS but rarely venture farther North. Squirrel Cove for example had over 50 boats anchored there the last time I was there. Past Dent Rapids the numbers thin out. I have found Port McNiel to be a great base for resupply, Laundry and other support. Beyond Point Caution there is another break in the Traffic. The west coast of Vancouver Island seels only the hard core and thus is as good ast the areas above Port Hardy.

Thanks John - We are enjoying at slow speed...except neither of us can take another winter up here on a boat

We found a lot of places to ourselves on the W Coast of Van Isle.

Trevor - thanks. We haven't been as far as Bella Coola - looking forward to it. We definitely are NOT looking for another home base. Rootless is where we want to be...and South this summer.

After spending 3 months last summer on the W Coast of Vancouver Island, we recently posted our most and least favorite places:
SV Estrellita 5.10b: Best and worst of the West Coast of Vancouver Island

Remember YMMV.
