SY Mico Verde: looking back on another season in the sun.

Wow this was a long one - around 4,000 miles over the bottom and probably lots more in reality thanks to the currents!

Just posted our final wrap-up for 2007. We started off in Bundy, QSLD and ended up in Singapore.

Mico Verde Yacht Sailing Blog Journals

After going thru lots of photos recently I'm starting to wonder why we're selling the boat?!

I'm wondering too. Care to enlighten us? You've almost made it 1/2 way. Lots of great places between you two and the US. You've done much to improve the boat.

Fair Winds in whatever you two choose.

Dave, first off thanks very much for the post on WOA - we are of one mind. I was actually trying to post but couldn't since my membership lapsed!

The simple fact of the matter is that we're just getting a little burned out. We've never had an off-season to date since we always went back to Seattle to work for three to six months. It's just feeling like the right time and place to call it a day. Business oppurtunities have come knocking too.

I like to think we're like The Police. After they played Giants Stadium (and sold out) that was it - at least 'til they got back together this year (playing in Singapore in Feb).

Thanks for reading the blog!

W,
In many ways I guess you answered your qst about why there aren't more younger people out cruising. I will agree that one can get burned out, finances, time, family, opportunity, etc.

In our case, we spend 15 months when we were in our early 30's crusing the Carib. The wife (yes I blame her) didn't feel like she was using any of her "professional" skills. So we came back to the states and began the working life full time, and eventually sold the boat "it was painful everytime I had to work on it". I hated the boat then because we weren't going anywhere with it and it was all money and time down the drain.

Twenty five years later we're ready to retire and fortunately we're of the generation that has earned has earned a retirement income so we'll be able to cruise w/o the extreme finanancial worries. (For this I thank my wife). We've spend 6 years preparing this boat - yes another Westsail, and we're going again. Hopefully slower, without a schedual and with the world as our destination.

So where ever you and Steph end up I know all those that followed your adventures wish the two of you well

Warren,

We've really enjoyed your and Steph's recurring guest star appearances in Billabong's blog this past year. Good luck with your reentry into the working world and the boat sale in Singapore. How is the market for yachts there?

Best,

Not too sure about the market for used cruising yacht here - will let you know!

Higher end cruisers move fast though - at Raffles it seems like a new Lagoon gets unloaded everyday from France.
