Sausalito for a few days - to do?

My wife and I are going to be in Sausalito for a few days at the beginning of March when I do my ASA 214 certification.

We will probably go up to the wine country (not sure which one) one day. We have seen some of San Francisco.

Any recommendations for the North side of the Bay?

Thanks

Jack

Sonoma is more picturesque than napa IMHO.

Sausalito itself is kinda fun for a half day or so.

Take a walk out to the lighthouse at Pt. Reyes. Beautiful spot and we've seen basking sharks from the trail.

Explore the beach and tidal areas of the Drakes Bay shoreline.

Take a hike through the redwoods in Muir Woods.

Drive/bike/walk up Mt. Tamalpais.

Visit the marine lab in Bodega Bay.

Take an umbrella...

In Sausalito, the US Army Corp of Engineers has a large model of the local bays and delta.

All good advice above.

The Presidio Yacht Club (near the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge) often has live music and it's open to the public. Beer, hamburgers, etc. -- it's a beautiful spot at night and a lot of fun.

Drive out to the Point Bonita lighthouse. There's a foot bridge over the rocks and waves to the rock where the lighthouse sits. Great views of the Farallon Islands, the Potato Patch and the Bay entrance.

One of my favorite Thai restaurants is in Sausalito: Arawan Thai Cuisine, 47 Caledonia St. I've had better in San Francisco, but it's usually quite good.

Take the ferry from Tibueron to Angel Island for some great views, hiking, history, and picnic.

Have a look around from Sausalito and see if you can spot the Flyin' Hawaiian before it biodegrades or sinks into the muck.

Visit Pier 39 in San Francisco and then take the nearby ferry to Alcatraz for a tour.

But don't mistakenly take the "honey wagon" to Alcatraz.

One is never sure what will show up.
