San Juan / Georgian Strait Get-Together - Summer 2010

Anybody up for a CF get together the second week of July? I will be at Sucia on that Monday in Beth (my Valiant). From there Sidney and where ever the wind blows us.

I'd be interested. How do you sail from Utah to the San Juans? My Mariner made the trip from Salt Lake City to San Juan Island-on a trailer.

Very funny SJS. What if I told you that the GSL is just a big extension of the Pacific? Oh well, they believed it 150 years ago. My boat is berthed in Bellingham.
Hummingway- we could pick you up on the way...do you know anyone in customs?

Newt, just a word of caution.. the last time we went north, didnt have any problems going but on the way back in we were searched throughout and very intence.. The customs at Roche Harbor wanted us to show recepts for all our electronic showing they had been bought in the US.. Didnt think it would be that hard to get back into your own country..

Coming north shouldn't be a problem. We get a LOT of boats coming up every year and Canada Customs is very relaxed. The US Coast Guard have apparently been boarding boats lately and US Customs are being more cautious. A friend who delivers boats was shocked by the level of suspicion displayed by the CG on a recent trip to pick up a boat. On the other hand the shear volumn of boats at that time has got to mean they don't have the time to bother people too much!

That might be fun. I could tell a cruising story and you could listen to my wife refute the entire thing.
We usually take a week in July and a week in August. We're in Semiahmoo so Sucia is the first stop for most every trip.
If you make the hop to and from Canada very often, the Nexus pass really is nice. Check in is by phone with a slow cruise pass the dock into Canada, and just a phone call on the way back to the U.S.
I have kids though so you might want to hoist a quarentine flag when you see us coming.

If you're a Nigerian en route from a well-known Yemen terrorist school with plastic explosives sewn into your skivvies, you get a free pass.

If you're bringing your documented, USCG-inspected, made-in-America sloop back into USA waters after a weekend visit to the Royal Victoria Yacht Club, you get strip searched.

Like I said, "Don't get me started."

It should be doabal for us...I cant afford to turn down any work though as that is my making hay time of year so we'll just have to play it by ear...If it was on a week end and we still have the SeaRay we could buzz up for a BBQ and beer if nothing else.

We are in the area and should be able to join as well but plans and schedules aren't solidified at this point in time.

Wow, more than I thought. Well, the Sucia anchorage will be rockin! Then we will descend on Sidney. How hard is it to get the Nexus pass? I thought they weren't giving them out anymore.

This is where a ships log (w/ maintenance) would come in handy.
BTW - NEXUS = http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/tr...er/nexus_prog/

Hopefully I can make it. If I get all the parts back on by then.

After 3 weeks in July in the Gulf Islands, we checked in at Friday Harbor. No problem, no search.

We'd love to get together, but will be in Barkley Sound during that time.

I'm new to the Forum... HI everybody! We were just talking about visiting the San Juan Islands this summer! I think I'm going to like you people! I started gathering info on the area. What are the must-see spots/islands/marinas? We will have about a week or so to explore in our powerboat (no sail, just a gas sucker!).
