Sailing to Aus.

My next adventure is to sail through the Panama Canal and the South Pacific to Australia. Time restraints mean a one way trip. Anyone interested in talking about what kind of boat is in demand down there?
We have an Endeavour 35 now in the Caribbean but will sell that and purchase something bigger for the trip. I could even do some research on local boats if anyone wanted a specific type 'delivered'.

Probably the best place to look for prices on what is selling here in aus is Used Boats - New Boats - Search New & Used Boats For Sale - BoatPoint Australia Not 100% how it works but either you or the buyer will have to pay 10%gst and 5% import duty at some stage either before the sale or on completion.

Hi. thanks for the info. Did you buy your Newport 30 from Dan and Kimber Lundgren in Aus. a few years back? If so they are out cruising again in the Caribbean, presently in St. Croix on their Island Packet 31.
Know anyone who might want to purchase a cruiser if we get her there?

The boatpoint site mentioned above is a good one.

There are two good sites in Australia; the other one being The yacht hub (Boats for Sale - Yachts for Sale - Used & New Boats @ The Yacht Hub).

I prefer tacht hub - it is easier to use, presents the information better and gives more details. Nevertheless, it is worth trawling through both, as ther are lots of boats that are listed on one or the other, but not both.

Personally, I don't think there is a particular type of boat that people will be looking for here, any more than anywhere else, at least. A well found boat is a well found boat, and people will recognise that. Of the mainstream production boats, Beneteau is far and away the most common, followed by Jeanneau. Hunters are Catalinas are rare.

Remember, Paul, every man and his dog is doing the same at the moment thinking they will make a nice tidy profit.

Even my sisters dentists friend is doing it. Truly!

So if its a money making venture please make sure you are ready, like all entrepreneurial activities, to take a outright loss.

I bought it of an aussie guy who only had it for a short time. he got it from an american couple who had it in guam for i fair while i think.

As for heaps of people doing it i have met only a few people bringing them here and then selling them. But if you are doing it more for the sail over here then for the profit you may make at the end you will be happy with the results.
