I think SS Little Devil is in Cal shopping for a boat after the first of the year.

I have a blog up although I'm a few days behind. Kind of reluctant to post it here because I had a warning from admin already about commercial posts or something and didn't want to rock the boat so to speak. The pre-production site is | SeeWorld TV with Jon Charron – An 8 Month Sailing Adventure Across the South Pacific – LA To Australia Through The French Polynesians. I don't have a boat to show anyone yet. Arrived on Thursday morning and met with my broker Friday morning but still haven't seen one boat. I'll be posting more shortly.

it has been my experiance,these thing's on average take 25% more time and 33% more money than expected,though at least you have made a start,which is 100% more than 98% will ever do!!!

I wrote on a CDN registered Jeanneau in St. Martin but after 48 hours, the broker did not even respond to or acknowledge the offer. The offer has long since expired. Very frustrating. It's no wonder boats don't sell, or sell low....

Camera Gear Stolen


Well I had the wind taken outta my sails today when I had my backpack stolen with the majority of my filming/photography gear in it. Inside was my Canon 7D, 70-200 2.8L ISII, 17-55 2.8 IS, Tokina 11-16, both EF extenders, zacuto zfinder, GoPro Hero HD, flash, pocketwizards, remotes, batteries, charger, filter$, etc. Plus my carbon fiber monopod was strapped to it. Almost $15,000 of gear…gone. Totally devastated and no insurance. It’s a very sad day and that will take a big bite out of my meager budget.

Sorry for your loss. When will rich thieves learn that stealing from a poor cruiser will create bad karma for their lifetime? And camera gear, that is a double bad karma hit, because its only purpose is to share beauty with others.

My hope is that instead of the equipment being hawked for drugs, whoever stole the equipment learns to use it, and becomes the next great photographer/cinematographer so he doesn't have to steal, and instead can share with others.

Well I'm in Mazatlan and the boat was pretty much trashed by a huge liveaboard dog and there was lots of undisclosed damage to the boat and the standing rigging was ready to collapse instead of being fantastic as advertised and as answered when asking questions. You couldn't even close hatches since wiring was all routed through hatches. So deciding where to go next to shop.

I officially launched the IndieGoGo campaign today to raise money for the production side of things and cover some crew expenses. Let the flames begin.

Don't get down we looked for 3 years at some beautiful boats and some like the dog you posted about before we bought and by then we had the cash to buy with It's all about timing

I can't believe people lie like that, and have this idea that you'd go through with the transaction if they're that dishonest. We almost walked from our last transaction when there was some dishonesty from the broker, but it wasn't that bad, and I think... for some brokers, little lies are how they fill dead spots in the conversation.

I think there's a tendency to make buying a boat harder than it is. I'm not saying you are doing this, so please don't take this personally, but I have seen people reduce the set of transactions they would be happy with to an extremely rare, once in a lifetime, deal that is essentially a seriously distressed sale that no one else has jumped on. It's natural to want to maximize the boat and minimize the cost, but if you push the maximizing and minimizing too far you end up with no boats that are actually for sale right now. So ... I believe it is much, much easier to buy a boat if one decides to be happy with a more common transaction. Our mental model for this was that it was that "having a boat that we like, now, and moving on to the next step" has value to us, and so we were willing to tolerate a transaction that was not the deal of the century. I actually don't know how much this cost us -- maybe we could have saved 5% by playing hard ball with the seller or broker, but maybe it wouldn't have worked and we'd not have a boat that we like now, and would not be that much closer to fulfilling a dream. Anyways, we haven't looked back.

jon you might be better off looking in panama at this late stage of the game,lots of dreams are abandoned there.
