Re: Sailing in the Philippines

Hello, I would like to revive this older thread because I am also looking for digital charts for the Philippines...
I plan to arrive to the country with my boat in a few months (coming from the West) ...and would rather not bump into the first reef there is...
Any tips?
Feel free to PM if preferred...

Re: Sailing in the Philippines

Hi , used navionics, cmap and the bewitched charts ,but what I recommend for the Philippines and Papua etc is sas planet. Its a free download and very easy to use. Im not a computer guy, yet I find it easy to use.You just cant beat the accuracy of satelite imagery. I downloaded about 30gig of imagery, yes it took a couple of days but just made navigating just soooo much easier. I now cant imagine not having it for those not well charted areas.
Also if you pm me your email I can send you alot of tracks for open cpn , I have tracks that cover alot of the Philippines.

Hi Zven,
If interested, I have a Garmin BlueChart g2 card for the Philippines that I'd be willing to part with for half the price I paid. It's Garmin # HXAE005R Java-Mariana 2010.
I only plugged it in just to see what it covered.

Re: Sailing in the Philippines

In 2014 we found many shallows and reefs that were not charted accurately if at all on Navionics, Garmin or CMap. We eye-balled everything in time, as we made it a rule to move only in daylight if at all possible. A friend lost her boat, however, on an overnight passage -- hit a reef just before sunrise. The "true" position of this killer reef wanders greatly if you look at different digital chart products, different updates. Having good clear satellite imagery is definitely a good idea.
