Sailing in Kauai?

Hi,

My girlfriend and I are active sailors from Seattle. We're boat owners and like to bareboat sail on vacation.

Currently we're in Kauai for a week and apparently there are no bareboat opportunities.

Of course we'd love to see the Napali coast from a sailboat. Skippered, bareboat, doesn't really matter at this point.

Does anyone have any insight or recommendations?

Any skipper on here from Kauai interested in taking out a nice couple?

We can provide some laughs, and wine, and some dollars.

Any help would be appreciated.

Aloha from the Big Island!
Sorry I'm not on Kauai to be able to help. Most Kauai sailors are in Lihue at Nawiliwili. Have you been down to the marina? Hanalei is pretty much closed out in the fall/winter months due to the frequent north swell.
Good luck. Wish you were here on the Hilo side. I'd take you out in a club boat or hook you up with a friend on his Ingrid 38. Also have friends who take folks out of Kona but would require more advanced notice.
regards,
JohnL

Hey John, thanks for the response!

The Big Island is so incredible!! Maybe on another trip we could head back there.

I'm assuming it's a long shot to find a sail out of this forum so our hopes aren't set too high.

However, I find it a little hard to believe that the only sailing opportunity that exists -at all - is on the big touristy 50 foot catamarans.

Maybe something will pop up.

Thanks again!

capita,
check out the nawiliwili yacht club. great folks, and they schedule regular thursday evening races and lots of weekend events. it's easy to get rides, if you're willing to contribute. good sailing...
