I listened to that story on Ira Glass' NPR program This American Life last weekend, rebel heart. It was a very interesting (albeit dated) story, I thought. It said a great deal about the Nauruans, the Australians, the unfortunate Afghani refugees, and, sadly, provided a little insight for those who believe American foreign policy is altruistic.

The American connection was news to me; I had heard most of the rest before. It was just really interesting hearing it from someone that was there. Australia using them as a mini-Guantanamo prison was weird too.

Geeez...Just listened to all 59 minutes of it. Interesting stuff. The deal with the US was apalling and believible
