Pirates kill Thai fisherman
KUALA LUMPUR - PIRATES have shot dead a Thai fisherman off the northern coast of Malaysia, police said on Monday.

Hatta Mohamad Zin, local police chief in Penang state said seven pirates approached the fishing vessel and opened fire late on Sunday, killing a 24-year-old fisherman.

Another Thai on the fishing boat said he suspected the pirates were from neighbouring Indonesia, based on their appearance.

'All of a sudden the boat came towards us and one of them opened fire,' he was quoted as saying by the Bernama news agency.

Mr Hatta said the pirates fled without stealing anything after seeing the fisherman lying in a pool of blood. -- AFP

Kuala Lumpur - A group of suspected pirates shot and killed a Thai fisherman in waters off Malaysia's northern state of Penang, official news reports said Monday.
The victim, Aung Sirichai, 24, was fishing with four other people late Sunday when a small boat with seven men approached them.
'One of the men fired four shots, hitting the victim on his hip,' district police chief Hatta Mohamad Zin was quoted as saying by the Bernama news agency.
The other fishermen said three of the attackers then boarded the boat but hopped back into their own boat and fled the scene upon seeing the victim sprawled in a pool of blood, Zin said.
The attackers were believed to be Indonesian pirates who wanted to rob the fishermen of their catch and belongings.
The victim, who was shot three times in the hip, died in the boat before it reached the shore
