Increased
Piracy Activity in S.
China Sea
The International Maritime Bureau has issued a
piracy warning to all ships transiting off Mangkai Island / Anambas Islands / South
China Sea
IMB says "three vessels have been attacked by armed pirates in the last few days in position lat. 02:58N Ð 105:14E, 02:58N Ð 105:11E and 02:47N Ð 105:07E. It appears that a group of about five to eight armed pirates are targeting vessels during the hours of darkness in the area. The authorities have been notified."
The pirates stole personal items before fleeing in a wooden boat. There were no injuries to the crew. IMB believed all three attacks were carried out by the same gang of pirates.
Indonesian authorities have been notified, and strict anti-piracy watches are recommended.
