Nuclear Explosions

When dreaming about that RTW I always thought to stay away from Marshall Islands because of all nuclear testing that went on there. However, after watching the video that shows all nuclear explosions between 1945 and 1998, I'm starting to think that this criteria would cause me to miss quite a lot of islands in the Pacific, so maybe it's not so useful after all...

This video first shows all explosions month by month, then, starting at 12:14 all explosions grouped by country [much faster viewing].

Re: Nuclear Explosions

From the looks of it, you might want to avoid Western US.

Re: Nuclear Explosions

Nuclear explosions are not all made alike, and beside that you only live once.

If you're young and healthy, low level short term exposure will not normally have permanent effects. If you're old and sick, then what are you worried about?

I do agree on avoiding the western US, though - the grounding risk is very high in the Nevada desert

Re: Nuclear Explosions

I have spent quite a few weeks working in the Western US that keeps flashing. It is weird seeing craters all over the ground.

Watching the Wal-Mart virus is more interesting (and frightning)

If they are allowing access to the sites I wouldn't be concerned about any radiation issue from those tests unless you are planning to make a long term habit of eating the dirt!

There is low level radiation all around us and most people would be shocked by the levels at lots of beaches and in the granite if hiking in the woods.

All of which is much less an issue to our bodies than sitting out in the sun for the afternoon catching some "rays"!
