Newcastle to Gold Coast Australia - Distance Between Ports ?

Hi this is my first message on this site. Has anyone information on daily distances between ports going from Newcastle to Gold coast. I have to deliver a 26' frances in two weeks?
Info would be greatly appreciated. I have a draft of 1200mm
Regards

You should pick up Alan Lucas' books for NSW and Coral Sea Cruising. Can't recall the exact names of the books now as our copies are on loan to someone doing a delivery very similar (Sydney-Brisbane day-only) to what you plan, but a search of the above words should be fruitful. Obviously, your choice of ports will depend on both your boat speed and your needs for fuel, but the choices are limited...and Lucas will give you good information on each, including coastal approach details. As for distances, use either Norrie's Tables or there are websites -- cf. Latitude/Longitude Distance Calculation -- that will calculate straight-line distances between co-ordinates.

Hi Andy

Welcome to the forum. From "Cruising the NSW Coast" by Alan Lucas
here they are:

Newcastle to Port Stephens 26m
Port Stephens to Coffs Harbour 167m
Coffs Harbour to Yamba 54m
Yamba to Ballina 35m
Ballina to Gold Coast 68m

I have not pulled into Yamba or Ballina from the sea and certainly wouldn't be attempting to if it was dark or the bar crossing not ideal. Certainly Ballina does not have a good reputation. There are other ports in between those listed but all will need good conditions to cross the entrance bar, even with your shallow draft. You will need to hug the coast to avoid the East Australian Current. Make sure you take your camera as there are plenty of whales heading up at the moment as well.

Happy sailing
Greg
