Well, we made it5 to Fiji & will now see what happens with NZ customs. I still haven't heard of anyone having their boat rummaged on departure.

The Customs can only perform inspections within your territory which starts (?) 12 miles off-shore.

Note - a non-fishing craft can in fact refuse an inspection by MAF - because MAF can only control craft that works in the zone - not one that passes thru it. Also, any craft sailing via the 12 mile zone can be boarded if reporting planned entry, otherwise the authorities will think twice before boarding.

Thanks for the info!! Never knew that as I like to always initiate my rights when possible. I'm always weary, if I do, will they invent some other loophole to be real hard heads and force themselves, etc.. Regardless, I'm always very friendly and cordial... But, that is good information to have on hand.. cheers
