New Pacific Island ?

recieved this today, photos wouldn't attach but was wondering if any one else had seen it?

A yacht was travelling in the South Pacific when the crew came across a weird sight. Look at these photos and try to imagine the thrill of experiencing this phenomenon!

A BEACH?

No,this is not a beach!

It is a mass of volcanic stones floating on the water!

WHERE IS THE VOLCANO?

UNBELIEVABLE SIGHT, PICTURES WERE TAKEN BECAUSE
NO-ONE WOULD BELIEVE IT!

THE WAKE OF MY SHIP

Then this was spotted:
ash and steam rising from the ocean.

And, while we were watching...

A huge plume of black ash arose.

THEN THE SKY TURNED BLACK WITH ASH
AND THE OCEAN TURNED GOLD WITH SUN'S REFLECTION.

THEN, OUT OF THE OCEAN, MOUNTAIN PEAKS AROSE!

MORE ERUPTIONS ASH AND CLOUDS.

THE MOUNTAIN PEAKS ROSE HIGHER WITHIN MINUTES.

And a brand new island was formed!

CREATION OF MOUNTAINS

Can you imagine the thrill of being the first and only people to see a new island being created where there was nothing before?

Re: New Pacific Island ?

thanks for the link, interested me because whilst sailing near tonga we saw volcanic pumice in the water.

but looking at the cloud cover in the photos i would say that the island formation photos were of a recent eruption near iceland

Re: New Pacific Island ?

Part is true.
The boat went throught the pummice in 2008 but didn't see no island appear from the sea.

That island you see is just some other place seen from on deck as one gets closer.

Theres been threads on here before.

That's how new little Pacific islands are created (no, it's not from two islands going at it in the night...) I thought this recent event actually did result in a land form (near Vanuatu, not the one shown) which was too friable to survive against wave action. Some of these wanna-be islands have to try many times before they get enough rock and ash above water level to stick. This one may have been and gone several times...

Early explorers mentioned this phenomenon. Can't remember which explorer but will try to find some info on it.

As Mark J mentions, this is quite and old bunch of photos. I received the email at least 3 years ago and a few time since.

Re: New Pacific Island ?

Why don't we all get together and claim it. We can start our own country, declare war on the U.S. lose and have them rebuild it a la Marshall plan.
