Marina Del Rey to Vancouver??

I am in Marina del Rey on my Cal 34 and am considering sailing it back to Vancouver, possibly via Hawaii. Obviously I would get a couple of experienced crew to come along.

I'd like to know the fastest way to get there, which I would think would be bashing up the coast, as well as the most comfortable way even if it takes a while, which I'm thinking would take me across to Hawaii and back?

Is it possible to do that trip over the summer?

Re: Marina Del Rey to Vancouver??

Being Hurricane season now makes the trip to Hawaii a little more risky.Ideally you should have sailed there by mid May,then return to PNW in June/July.That is the smoothest route, that you can actually sail.Bashing the coast can be done over summer, probably alot of motoring and delays waiting for breaks in weather.August is fairly smooth up the coast.Pt. Conception,Pt. Reyes,Cape Mendocino and Cape Blanco are areas where prevailing wind can be accelerated.Early morning till early afternoon is best time to travel north. There are small nooks and coves about every 50 miles all along the coast protected from NW wind. Some are bar entrances, which at times may be dangerous for small craft.
