A bit of advice/confirmation from those who have done it would be appreciated. I have a
Crealock 40
cutter which is currently in LA. I sailed it down from
Canada earlier this year and plan to get crew together and
head to
Australia next March/April. The
boat is in good shape. 11 years old. I just replaced all
rigging,
electronics, solar, wind Gen, etc etc etc. Good to go. I intended to go this year but one of my crew decided sailing was 'outside his area of comfort' in a 45
knot blow 80 miles off the
Oregon coast. Better to find out there than halfway to the Marquessas but this just left two of us and we were running out of time so I left the
boat in LA and went home to think. My question is simply 'how realistic is it for me to try and find a couple of experienced crew I can depend on for such a trip? Has anyone actually managed to do this? I don't want paid crew as i think this would spoil the whole experience for me but I'm also not adverse to helping out with travel expenses and would not expect any financial contribution from crew. I also don't want to end up as I did this year with inexperienced crew. I'm also getting a bit long in the tooth to do it alone.
