Looking for boats in company, cruising PNG, Sept-Dec 2012

We are a US flagged sloop currently in Brisbane, Australia with our family of 5 aboard.

We're planning to cruise through Papua New Guinea from September to December this year and hope to find other boats to sail in company with.

We expect to go from the Louisiades to Tobriands, up to Kavieng, and across the islands on the north side of PNG. Not yet sure if we'll clear out for Palau/Philippines or Indonesia but leaning toward Indo.

If you or any boats you know are headed that way, we'd love to get in touch! Please contact through email to sail (at) sv-totem (dot) com, our Aussie mobile (0467 009 554) or via our blog: S/V Totem Family.

thanks- the Totem crew

Love to come, but unfortunately we are topping up the cruising kitty this year. Following the same route as you next year, so we will follow your blog with interest.

Thats where the boat is but i live at Bells Beach in Vic.
I have heard about waves on the outside reef but i don't think they would be much good.
Otherwise we would know about them in detail and someone would be trying to sell charter trips to them.
They get some waves around the outer whitsundays if th conditions line up.

Looks like Lady Elliot island has a good right hander on the right conditions.
Wind needs to be 10 knots or less?
Plus swell of course.
Someone also put on the net that Lizard island has a long right hander too.

Yes, Lady Elliot does have a wave. When I lived in Maroochydore in the 80's a group of us camped on the island for a week, windsurfing and surfing, windy most of the time but we got an early in one morning. Lucky u at bells, when do you go to Cairns? We are in Sydney at the moment, high flying corporate jobs and living on the boat in the Harbour, bit of a laugh really, you should see the look on their faces at work when I tell them where I live!
I hope Lizard island has a wave, there must be waves at Louisiades as well!

We get up to Cairns Christmas, long weekends and sept school holidays.
Just had 2 weeks in Bali, surf just overhead most days and windy most of the time.A lot cooler than normal too, really weird weather over there at the moment.
Hoping to get up to Cairns soon.
Must be funny living on the harbour.
Last easter we anchored for 3 days in front of the fish market,it was awesome.
Wish we could have spent more time around the harbour.
