La Paz - Boat Babysitting

Does anyong have any thoughts they'd care to share on boat services available in La Paz and the potential to have some people babysit my 65' motor yatch??? I'm looking for a safe, secure sight where, in a perfect world, my boat could be kept in prestine mechanical condition await my return. I'm I completely delusional or could this possibly exist??? We would move her down there and cruise the area when the kids were out of school in december, March and the summer. I'm dreaming aren't I???

Are you talking about La Paz, Bolivia, which is at above 12000 feet...
You'll have first to get the boat there!!

check out "the moorings" they have a base down there, may find a skipper+hostess who work for their crewed yacht charter in need of somewhere to stay in between charters.

Re: La Paz - Boat babysitting???

La Paz, Baja California, Mexico I presume ; -)

And it's totally doable. We had friends with a lovely cruiser who kept it there for years, for use when staying at their condo. Their Captain/boat guy took beautiful care of the boat and was available to take it out for guests.

On the other hand I had the impression they paid pretty well by Baja pay rates...

Yikes. La Paz is in Baja California Sur, Mexico. A totally different state. (Like saying "Virginia" when you meant to say "West Virginia.")

Re: La Paz - Boat babysitting???

La Paz is in Baja California Sur, as Bash mentions. It is the state south of the state of Baja California.
Mail from the US to addressed to me in La Paz frequently found its way to - and back from - La Paz, Bolivia. Don't know which side of the US border that got screwed up on...

Re: La Paz - Boat babysitting???

Summer may be a bit of a problem because of the Hurricanes. But when we were in the marina at Barra de Navidad, we ran into a couple of skippers who did maintenance and protection in return for living aboard and a small salary when the owners were not there. They also took them places when they were there. I expect you could do the same thing easily in La Paz at places like Costa Baja or Palmira.

Re: La Paz - Boat babysitting???

lol - yes, la Paz in Bahia de La Paz, Southern part Baja Mexico...

Thanks for the replies; they fill me with hope. We have been able to find really good people in Poerto Rico and Torotla and now it sounds likely that we'll be able to find some good people in La Paz. This means heading down and making some friends...

Thanks for the replies - this is a great site!!!

Re: La Paz - Boat Babysitting

A lot of people keep there boats on the hard at San Carlos or Guaymas. But La Paz will work also. Lots of Canadians keep there boats down here and they like it.

Re: La Paz - Boat Babysitting

I'm with Rearsteer... Guaymas or San Carlos is a great spot to keep that size vessel and there are several competent and honest folks there who will care for your boat. I suggest you contact the Port Captain for a recommendation on who he feels would do a good job for you. I don't recall his name but he has been there for many years and knows most every reputable and not so reputable individuals experienced and reliable to care for your boat... good luck, Capt Phil
