Headed to Puerto Vallarta

We are looking into moving from Canada to Mexico and Puerto Vallarta appears to be a good place for sailing. Any comments or recommendations would be welcomed.

If we move, a significant deciding factor is whether I can find a good marina to dock my boat. It is a Beneteau First 36.7. Anyone know the name of a good marina with a website so I can inquire about availability?

I also like to race. Is Puerto Vallarta a good port with club and regatta races?

Lastly, I'd appreciate information / advice about moving my sailboat there. Can I sail it down as my possession without duties or import taxes? Any bureacracy involved or pretty straight forward?

Good idea. And easy.

Yes, if you are on the west coast sail her down.

There are three good marinas in the PV area. You should choose after seeing them. I'd stay at Marina Riveria Nayarit because the town of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle is far better than the other locations. But the other two may have advantages for you.

You simply get a '20 Year Import Certificate' for a smallish fee and the boat can stay for 20 years without taxes or fees.

Summer's are rainy and squally. Fall, winter and spring are very nice. There is regular race activity. I can't find a good link....but try writing these people Vallarta Yacht Club

When there I'd like to be able to offer sailboat rides / cruises as a small income supplement. Does anyone know how rigid /vs laid back Mexico is regarding regulations / licensing etc for such?

As long as you get your residency, via FM-2 or FM-3. not hard to get.
Otherwise engaging in any commercial transaction is a crime and the Mexicans are serious about enforcement.
