Golfito, Puntarenas

Well I am here in Puntarenas, and not another cruiser in sight. There's not much in sight here at all. I am thinking of leaving in yhr morning, and heading south in Golfito. I know the season has passed, but there's got to be cruisers here somewhere. Things aren't cheap here either. Any one have information on Golfito?..........i2f

Sorry Costa Rica is my location. I'll be here until the hurricane season is over. I have to be out of the country in 3 months. It is disputed if the boat has to go, or not. I will discuss it with the next Port Captain, and then make a plan.

Puntarenas is small, and no birds of the same feather to chat with, or share information with. The cost of eating is very high, and no place to anchor without fear of theft. I need access to a hardware store for upcoming work on the boat, so Isolated anchorages are the ideal situation........i2f

LandSea at Golfito is a good place to hang. The moorings are $8 a day and the club house is friendly. You can e-mail Tim there and ask anything you need to know. Keeping your boat in CR for greater than 90-days is a bit of hassle. You might want to download the latest Sarana Guide and read up on the options and costs for an extended stay. Bahia del Sol in El Salvador is also a cheap place for a boat to stay. $100 a month for a mooring.

The Gulf of Nicoya is full of remote anchorages with Punitarenas as its major town. There can be a hundred boats in there and you'll never know it. As you leave going south there's a marina on the south coast at Herradura. Next is the capital, San Jose before you reach Golifito. Then its pretty remote until you get to the Panama Canal. Great anchorages along the way.

Left the canal, and it took me 3 attempts to get it behind me. I have considered Nicaragua when my time is up here. Access to the hardware is my concern along with a wee bit of a social life. Mel will leave for the states soon for at least several months, so the boat will be empty without her.

I will need to replace material as I use it. I am no party animal, but not a recluse either. We anchored in Ballena for a couple of days, but it was pretty active with the waves rolling in. Only one other boat there too........i2f

Ihis is hurricane season along that coast so be careful as you head north.
I know of no good places going north to obtain boat parts until Mexico.

Population areas are scarce.
