Given a Tropical Island

.... "they were stunned when Tui" ... "offered them a small island instead of money."

Perhaps you've already met Ben and Lisa Newton over in Tonga. Or read about them. No?
Then click here: http://www.bbc.com/travel/story/20170228-

"What remarkable adventures and experiences arise for those who heed the bewitching call of the sea."

{Somebody, somewhere, probably said that. Maybe it was me.... }

Re: Given a Tropical Island

FYI... "Tui" is the name given to a king or chief.

Re: Given a Tropical Island

From what is conveyed in the article, Ben and Lisa seem to embody the best of the sailing community: Diligence, self-reliance, thrift, empathy and respect for culture and the environment. A marvelous tale about exceptional folks.

The part about carefully following Polynesian customs was a familiar thread. It's similar throughout the Pacific. If you want to get things done, relax, take the time to build relationships and things will come through in due course.

Re: Given a Tropical Island

A wonderful couple who have done a lot for Tonga and the cruising community. Gifting of islands in Tonga is a huge sign of honour.

Re: Given a Tropical Island

Ben and Lisa, in addition to being fantastic warm people, have a crazy cool resort in Tonga.

Accommodation in Tonga, Mandala Resort

A *true* island experience for fly-in visitors and a fun place to visit as a cruiser.
