Hi Chuck,

Dunno if the current crop of cruisers appreciates how useful (nay, essential) your posts are,but that sort of info would sure have made our lives easier back when we were cruising FP. Good onya, mate!

Hi, just to clarify. A long term visa is 12 mths? How many times can you renew this? I saw on your website you stayed three years?

Guys like you make it so much easier for the rest of us due to your blogs /websites. Thankyou.

Long Stay visas are either 6 or 12 months - be careful of what box you check on the application. Some applications do not have a box to check so make sure its clear in the written portion of the application.

Linda has recently renewed her carte de sejour (what you receive in FP after your paperwork is processed) 3 times. Very easy to renew and you can continue to renew each year. At the 5 year mark you can then apply for residency.

The issue is that the boat can only stay for 3 years before either importing it or going to the Cooks or Pitcairn(depending on what side of FP you are on) and then returning to reset the clock. You only need to be out less than 1 day but need official clearance paperwork to show FP customs.

I am just about to update our Long Stay Visa writeup (Version 15) and post back up to our website. Clarifying bond requirements.

Warm regards

Chuck

Re: French Polynesia Bound? Updated Long Stay Visa Info, Marquesas Food Costs, etc.

We have recently added a few updates regarding French Polynesia that could be of interest to those planning on heading this way.

Long Stay Visa - updated our document to reflect some recent changes. Especially the need to post a bond depending on where you check in

Short Stay 90 day visa - A local agent asked us to write up information regarding the 90 day visa issued upon arrival to most all non EU vessels

Food Prices in the Societies - A recent charter in Raiatea we posted their food costs and availability.

Also available are food costs and availability in the Marquesas - Great for planning on what to buy before you depart on the jump.

Located on our website at Other Good Stuff

Also I have been busy updating the FREE Tahiti Cruisers Guide which now contains gps coordinates for most of the vendors in Papeete. Online you can click the link to show you where the location of each vendor. This is a downloadable guide (to pdf) so before you depart for FP drop a copy on your desk top. This guide is being constantly updated so be sure to check online at

Tahiticruisersguide

Please let me know if you find any errors or have any additions.

Soggy Paws Compendium on the Marquesas, Tuamotus and Societies have all received recent updates.

Have recently updated our French Polynesia long stay visa(V17) doc that reflects changes for those applying for a LS visa in the USA. Namely the French consulate visa services have been outsourced to an Indian company.

The Tahiti guide is being updated sometimes on a daily basis. Be sure to grab a new when you arrive. Also using maps.me instead of google earth works much better in Papeete. You can now use the guide offline by downloading the waypoints when you have internet.

Both can be reached from our website in "Other Good Stuff" or from the links in previous post

Cheers
