Fiji - Beqa - Lalati Resort in Malumu Bay

We just spent five days anchored in Malumu Bay and had amazing hospitality and help at the Lalati Resort in the Bay! We'd read that other yachts had issues anchoring directly off the resort (which is located on the West shore of the Bay near the mouth), as there is coral and a steep drop off. That appeared correct, and we found an incredible anchorage at the south end of Malumu Bay, four meters, mud bottom. There was a good amount of difference at high and low tide, so don't get too close to Lawaqalevu Island, aka Bat Island.

Rob and Crystal manage the resort and they did everything possible to make us feel welcome. A day into our stay our outboard motor died, and Rob helped us try to fix it and took it into Suva when all else failed, bringing it back that evening. We know he had many errands to run there, so really went out of his way to help us out as well. We can't thank him enough for that!!

We made our sevusevu at Lalati Village. Lela from the resort took us into the village for that, she was a wonderful help the entire stay! We went to Soliyaga Village to watch the firewalking as well which was impressive!

We'd only found pretty dated our vague detail on anchoring here, so wanted to let others know that it was a very secure anchorage in what turned out to be quite windy and rough conditions. The resort had a great dive shop, small spa and wonderful restaurant. Very low key and well kept, a perfect base for exploring Beqa!

Sounds like the next Crew falling in love with Fiji.
Fiji was also our favorite spot cruising, and it seems to be everywhere similar that it´s very easy for yachties to meet friendly locals and support even from foreign owned businesses. Hope it stays like this.
