Do you need a passport to sail to Micronesia?

I'm confused.

I was reading this one thing that said you don't need a passport to sail to the Federated states Of Micronesia. Only a birth certificate........Federated States Of Micronesia | Travel Visas and Passport Guide.

Then I was reading another thing from a government website that says that you do in fact need a passport......FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA (FSM) - Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) - U.S. Department of the Interior

I can't specifically answer your querie, wod, but it seems to me that anyone who ever even thinks they might one day leave their home country should obtain, and carry, a passport.

Unless a person has some overwhelming reason not to get a passport (I can't think of such a reason), why not get it, carry it, and always protect it. It's rock-solid ID, and if you've ever decided at the last second to travel somewhere, forget doing so if that somewhere is outside the country, even to Canada or Mexico.

The days when just being an American meant the rest of the world welcomed your visit (and your cash) are long gone.

If you are traveling on the high seas you better have a passport! You aren't serious thinking of sailing across the Pacific without one are you???

And if you had read the first reference closely you might have noted that while Americans might not (or might) need a passport to enter Micronesia, you cerainly need oneto re-enter the USA!
