Coming Home Course

I have checked all the sailing guides I can find including the pilot charts, and see no way to sail back from Marquesas no matter the time of year, any one have thoughts on this/

Work your way north to Hawaii, and then sail back to the mainland.

The old down east saying "you can't get there from here" applies. You have to go somewhere else first.

Me thinks you have not checked Jimmy Cornell's "world cruising routes"... every boat should have a copy!! It's in there I have just checked....

Simply head to Hawaii... friends left New Zealand late March - and Hawaii was the next destination after Tahiti.

Good luck!

I did it from Tahiti about 35 years ago. Pretty straighforward (not short), you go to Hawaii, then decide how far north you want to go to get east (typically to California).

I went to Alaska and would highly recommend it, if you like that kind of scenery and sailing, but it is A LOT farther and you usually find yourself powering through the channels in Alaska and BC to get to Vancouver or Seattle. Then, it can be a tough, though usually downhill, slide offshore to the Bay area or south.

This is why the Sandwich Islands were known as the crossroads of the Pacific; just north of the east-bound highway, and on most every north-/south-bound course to or from the west coast of North America.
