Understood, sometimes we're fogged in in Vancouver, Wash, and when I cross the River to Portland the sun is out.
BTW I lived in the Layton-Clearfield area from 1945 to 1956.

Also, as you move up stream, some of the upper pools are warmer. Surface temps above the John Day dam are in the upper 70's come Aug/Sept, for example. Not always windy either (September: not me, but my boat, my board)

That looks fun. I just love the look of the dry dusty mountains once you get past the Dalles.
