Stop by Thailand and you'll find very large Germans paying big money for stuff like that. OOOPS ! Wrong thread.

Reminds me of a Greek girl I used to know. She had a moustache almost as good as her father's.

So the drama's continue...
got measured on Tuesday... Tuesday nite woke to strong smell of sulfer and what sounded like a slipping fan belt... the batteries were boiling... one had an internal short and was screaming... to hot to touch... managed to disconnect them and got the 'Hot' one ashore but wow... scarey or what... nearest I ever want to get to a Thermal Explosion... so its find new AGM's...
Lotsa CF folk here... Jedi, Flysci, Goldsmith with his 25kt Bruce Roberts and a few others.... I'm the only one 'flying the flag' tho'.....
Date for transit is provisionally the 21st of the month... they've just switched back to 2 day transit... woulda prefered it in one but there ya go...

Hey Zee.... yeah... engines... Margo's not to happy with hers right now... have suggested a bracket and long shaft 9+hp o/board instead of a lift out and rebuild here... just enough to get her through the canal and Mexico bound...
She's a bit nervous about that one tho'... the calms on the Pacific side...
Be interesting to hear the quote she gets... local chandlery has quoted $1076/8A8D AGM battery... and we need 4.... thats painfull.....

Re: Change of Plan

Boatman,
Just curious if you were able to contact either Don Anderson or Karsten Staffeld, that I refered you to last month, for Pacific weather routing????

Quote:
Boatman,
You can contact Don Anderson directly via e-mail, to clarify freqs, etc. (as he also uses 12.359mhz and 16.528mhz, for those far offshore) as well as discuss your passage and routing....
His website is Don on Summer Passage

And, In addition to Don, you may wish to contact Karsten Staffeld, a Danish sailor and long-time resident of Panama, who like Herb Hilgenberg (SOUTHBOUND II), offers detailed weather forecasts and routing advice, both by voice and email to yachts making the run across the Pacific....
karstenpanama - at – hotmail.com

I hope this helps...

Fair winds and good luck with the batteries!!!

Hi John.... no have not tried contacting them as yet.. was going to leave that till I got away from the Carib side and was westward bound...
Just got a quote from Marine Warehouse for 1K less on the four... but cannot get them to me before May 2nd....
This job is gonna end up being a loss maker for me at this rate...
5 sailing weeks wasted and no day rate for this crap.....

Re: Change of Plan

sounds like a bad gig as far as money goes--i hope the sailing has made up for it-- good luck on the batteries--is that for all of them?? is a gag me price...painful...
sometimes a grenade in the oil pan seems like a great idea, but the neighbors may object a lil, and i havent studied the after effects on hull....i hope margos problem is fixed soon ..
weather across pacific is good for now---some breezes in some areas but mostly clear...

Seen them for as little as $250 in the states. Might be worth the owners time to have them hot shotted down from the states.

At least the battery picked a good place to die, the Rum is pretty good there.

Could have picked up the 'Wet's' (245ah) for $365 each unfortunately the battery box makes servicing them a real pain involving disconnecting and lifting 2 to get to the back two to slide forward one at a time...
But yeah thats the way I would have gone otherwise...
How was Vic's boat... or is the hunt still on...

thats a bummer, could you sail with just 2 wet cells? and save the owner a bit of money till aus?

vic has put a realistic offer in,relative to the amount of work that needs doing.

just waiting to see if the owner stops dreaming and accepts it,instead of waiting another 2 years....whilst the boat deteriourates further.....
