Re: Change of Plan

Heya, welcome to dry land. It's been a long leg, and a longer trip.
Who said it was downhill when the compass points down?
Good to hear you actually got to Aus Land, and just in time by the sound of it.
You've been a little lucky with bits falling off while the coast was in sight.
Isn't that what makes a good sailor, that feeling that things aren't right?
Well done, again.

Lets hope the owner doesn't get funny on the money - otherwise my bet is that CF will get a thread titled: "how to get 3' of boat hook removed from a bottom" .....whereas I suspect you won't need to start a thread titled "How to insert........."

pirate Re: Change of Plan

Hey Atoll... no plan for the W.coast yet... decide when I get there... as to the waves rolling over the deck... had that all the way... this is a rolly boat... 30-40 degrees is the norm if the sea's are 3m +...
gen-set and gas are now running again... with a bit of swearing and Irish screwdriver work...lmao.
Only exciting bit in the Torres was when I went below at daybreak to grab a couple hrs kip and was woken half hour later with "Phil... the winds gone on the nose what should I do...?" I stagger up and supervise sheeting in then on the way down again noticed that the autopilot was off... seems the young lad was playing with the vhf and knocked off the switch... another 500metres and we'd have crunched on a reef... swore a lot but no real harm done
D.O.J.... hope they don't try screwing me on the dosh... marine law carries debts with a boat... a lien is easy enough to get which shuts off access to the boat to everyone till its sorted and the Fair Pay Ombudsman over here will assess the job and payment on the normal rate payable for the trip... not my stupid discount quote for a 3 mth job... which has turned into 6.... once the original route was deemed not possible due to lack of seaworthiness of the vessel for the job it technically became a new contract... and as the owner flatly refused to sign the old one (thought he'd forgotten in USA) when he joined me in Port Vila he shot himself in the foot big time.
Maybe I should be hoping they do...
Could end up with more than my normal rate.... as most are at least $50/day more than me....
Be an interesting experience...

Re: Change of Plan

should be pretty easy going till port hedland if you follow the coast, then be prepared to motorsail the last 1000miles.
wind direction is determined by the southern ocean low pressure systems passing,so you will get easterlies before the sw'lies blast thru, goes in a 10 day cycle more or less!

renegotiating contract from say bali might work!

Re: Change of Plan

FWIW, I am currently about 80 nm offshore Port Hedland and we have 5 to 10 Kts of Eastlies over the last two days and maybe 1' waves

Good Lord Boats! You must have been a right evil one as a child to deserve this!

Glad you are almost through, you going to sign your crew back on for the next delivery?
