Boat Parts Singapore

I will be in Singapore for a week starting Jan 27th. Specifically to find boat parts.

I need to identify best area or location to access marine/automotive/electrical suppliers for stuff like duplex RACOR Filter Housings (Model 900FG) , 24V LED lights, DC breakers and switches.

Anyone with advice on what area I should find a hotel in that would be convenient to those suppliers?

Also any recommendation on suppliers ?

Thanks

Re: Boat Parts Singapore

There may be more in SG, but the only shops I know dedicated to yachts are as follows:

1) MarineTech in Jalan Besar Plaza. Good prices and helpful owners. It’s not so big, but I have seen others do custom orders and pick them up here so it is likely they can get almost anything. This is the best all purpose shop I know of and if they don’t have it—it is likely they know where to find it...
2) Raffles marina has a chandlery that looks pretty big, but I have never actually been inside.
3) Changi Sailing Club has a small shop that is open on weekend and intermittently during the week. I think it would mostly be good for ropes as they stock some dynema. Unless you have another reason to be in Changi I would call first as there aren’t any other shops around here.

Besides the above there are loads of shops / distributors that specialise in certain products, if you need anything in particular search Google or let me know and I will see if I can help.

If you can show the parts are for a foreign flagged vessel you can get your 7% GST excluded. My boat is Singapore flagged so I have no idea how to do this...

Although I have never been up there, i think the yacht industry is much bigger in Phuket and Langkawi. Langkawi is also a duty free zone.

Thanks SpaceRnglr, most of the stuff is not dedicated yacht parts but electrical / engineering parts and engine instrument gauges.

I have been researching via Google the brand distributers and will try and reorder from them once identified.

I am registered in Langkawi so hopefully a copy of registration will suffice.

If a lot of the suppliers are small go-downs, maybe you know of some company that will consolidate my order and I buy from them.
Booked flight for Jan 27 to Feb 3 and got a hotel near Bugis

Re: Boat Parts Singapore

I would start with MarineTech... In the same shopping center there are a number of electrical shops selling all sorts of buttons and wires. The issue is that none of them are marine focused. I couldn’t find small waterproof buttons to repair my windlass remote, for example, and I doubt they would have proper marine wire.

I also don’t know anyone who would consolidate, but your best bet again is MarineTech... I have no affiliation to them, but they are sort of the only shop in town. Lucky for us I have always found their prices to be as good as mail order options...

+1 for Marintech. I have used them on few occasions and Jessie there is always most helpful, she replies to emails promptly and gives you fair prices, I think she is the owner. Once she didn't have something I wanted but she sourced it for me within a few hours.
No affiliation other than a happy customer.

Thanks Spaceranglr and Eric.
I will definitely visit Marintech.

I did manage to be introduced to a guy Shaun from Arkwright Pte, (paint distributer) who does this consolidating for a refit yard here in Subic.
Sent him my priority list
I will let you know how it goes.

I will be staying at Ibis on Bencoolan as my best friend from Canada will be there same week.

I need to find a best Hardware store for quality and soecialty tools like KNIPEX and TYCHO as I like to put hands on before buying
Can you suggest the best and also the most convenient?

Same with Electrical, Housewares and Plumbing stores?

Thanks for your advice
