Best Place in Australia for South Pacific Sailing ?

Hello,

I'm looking to work a passage in the South Pacific and am soon flying to Australia (from Bali) to try my luck. I'll arrive end of July, beginning of August. I'm looking to find out which is the best city/harbour for me to try my luck? I have a friend in Melbourne whom I'd love to visit, but I'm wondering whether Cairns or Brisbane would be better suited locations. I'm a bit worried about the season as well, as many boats should be in the South Pacific already at this time of the year. Could you please give me some advice?

Thanks a million, Isabelle
