Back to the Great Northwest

We are headed to the Northwest. The Puget Sound is where we learned to sail and we have many fond memories of the area. It has been nearly 30 years since we plied the deep cool and we are now retired and long over due to get a boat and do some cruising.
With this in mind I am soliciting input from local sailors/cruisers about change in the way of regs, any tips about anchoring restrictions or anything regarding our return that we may find helpful.
I realize the population has expanded greatly and expect to stay away from the metro areas as much as possible. The jello plan is to get cruiser, enjoy the rest of this season, backpack some, ski a little, haul the boat, then next March April outfit for a voyage to Alaska. Please do not torpedo this dream, its the only one I've got right now.

No specific tips but welcome back to a great cruising area. The metropolitan areas are fairly confined by geography so it is still wilderness cruising north of Vancouver.

I was puzzled by your 'ski a little'. If I'd been living in Florida they wouldn't be able to pry me out of the back-country ski areas for at least 6 months!

Thanks for that. We have been helping family and got side tracked. We were lucky to be near some great paddling near Ocala, beauatiful spring fed waters, great wildlife. Will be looking for some paddle craft once we get sailing. I've gotten a bit soft in my retirement so no xcountry skis for us. Down hill, heck we are cruisers.

I like the sound of your dream. I would be heading south rather than north to Alaska. I think I am allergic to cold.
