Australian Customs - Deterrent to Visiting Oz ?

Some years ago, I was in Fort Myers Beach Florida for a Sherriffs sale of boats.
Seized wooden shrimpers were being filled by concrete trucks, prior to being towed out and sunk in the Gulf.
Not worth saving by the time the legals were completed.

I know a guy who bought a Vagabond 47 that was siezed in a drug bust.
He got it for about $48,000, but it needed some work.
He slowly did it up and about 2 years later he was redoing the master cabin head, and found a packet of white powder they'd missed behind the lining.
He took it to the police and had such a hard time getting them to believe his story that he wishes he'd just thrown it over the side.
But now he won't leave Aus because he's not sure they haven't missed more and who would believe him?

One would have thought that was in breach of MARPOL. Is the US not a signatory

So is Australia but it seams its ok for Mobil to dump 2500lt a day in the Yarra river Mobil's licence to spill, and it's legal

Time flies. This was 1984. I presume they had been made safe from polutants by the powers that be.

Not at all a breach of Marpol nor anything else.

They clean out all the petroleum products and any other hazardous materials first. When we lived in Maryland, they barged a bunch of Army tanks off shore from Ocean City and sank them. They do it to create an artificial reef to attract fish, not as a means of disposing of rubbish, so it actually enhances the environment.

I can think of 8 vessels, in excess of 100 tons,that we have sunk around here to build dive sites and reef habitats. One was the biggest floating dock the Royal navy owned.

Why not believe him? This kind of accident can happen to any unsuspecting couple. The very fact that that man took the drugs to cops shows good intent.

We entered Australia at Christmas Island three months ago and found the officials to be very friendly and helpful. Wasn't until we reached CARNARVON that we came face face with a brain deficient official
This was after we had to educate the Immigration section of the Australian Embassy in Singapore that "yes New Zealanders did need a visa to enter Australia via Christmas Island

He wasn't so concerned about Aus because they could verify the history. Although who is to say any new drugs found wasn't a new import?
But he was also concerned about countries to our north where some execute drug traffikers and probably wouldn't believe him.

Next time tell them you're from Afghanistan - free house, clothes, food, phone, dental etc etc. If you don't like the phouse just burn it down and they'll give you another one.

News item today. Darwin man locked up for a "mistake" has received enough comp to now go over to the USA to buy an upgrade yacht. They thought he had drugs in his shampoo.
