Just because it is fun to dream about sometimes being cast away so to speak and anchored in some lagoon and it's just you. No clearance, not red tape, no time limit, just your own island to pick coconuts and fish and find tropical fruit.

No, it's not my highest priority of a destination, I just want to know if there is anything out there or is everything private.
Do you want it with an over sexed 25 yr. old? I'm sure someone can say something more intelligent than I.

Re: Are there any deserted islands like in the movies?

I've anchored off dozens of uninhabited islands in the Bahamas and been the only boat there. There is of course the typical entry requirements red/tape, but the cruising permits includes fishing, lobstering (in season) and of course coconuts can be picked up.

Re: Are there any deserted islands like in the movies?

Some contact with human life is necessary for sanity, and resupply....but one can simulate one's own mobile desert island by scattering sand on the deck and carrying a beloved palm tree in the cockpit, like the ones belonging to Jimmy Cagney, that Henry Fonda and Jack Lemmon heaved over board in that movie. Aussie and Kiwi customs will likely repeat the scene for you, gratis...

Re: Are there any deserted islands like in the movies?

There are actually very few 'Deserted' islands. To Desert an island, it need to have once been occupied and the inhabitants decided to leave the island without returning.

There are many UNINHABITED islands, however to my knowledge there is only one body of land remaining on earth which does not fall under the possession and jurisdiction of a governmental body (to my knowledge) and that is Antarctica.

In short, there are many, many, many uninhabited islands, however they are all owned by someone. The idea of 'no red' tape.....good luck.

Yes there are, but they're uncharted and lost in the great
big ocean. (I heard of one near Hawaii, just a few people and a boat called The Minnow.)

If you're in NA then not too far away. Many uninhabited islands in the Bahamas and also in the Caribbean; although, you might get visitors like me.
Anchored in many of them.

I have been to several in the West Pacific.
If I tell you there location they will no longer be deserted.
The adventure is in the finding!
Bon Voyage.

Certainly in the magnificent archipelago of Indonesia. This is what has kept us cruising this area for a decade.

Re: Are there any deserted islands like in the movies?

Yes, absolutely! I've been trying to keep this place to myself, so far, so good. This 16+ hectare island has a reliable fresh water source, a small coarse sand beach and is heavily forested. The beach is a palimpsest of culture trash, hula hoops, kewpie dolls, Bic lighters, Betty Crocker cake and Koolaid mix packages, Commodore computor parts ... The list goes on. For the right person I would consider renting it.

A mile back off your port quarter, that's me, following you around until I find it.
