Re: All Cyclone Pam threads merged to here

We made some good friends on Erromango and Tanna. Lovely people. Really worried about them just now.

Port Villa direct hit i read.
O boy this is a big cyclone heading for Northern NZ. Metservice are saying it will swerve just off the east coast and hit maybe Eastcape. Looks big to me. Many boats will be lost.

Pete (No Ties) hasn't posted for ages. Hope all is OK.
That devastation looks appalling .

Re: All Cyclone Pam threads merged to here

These boats seem in the main harbour, behind the island. About a dozen piled up and sunk. I wonder if they were at the dock or anchored out before.

That long narrow inlet just E of the harbour - is it navigable? Looks like a fine cover from bad storms but the entry looks shallow on Google Earth.

Any news from our special envoy? How did they do?

Re: All Cyclone Pam threads merged to here

Hope you made it through the storm OK. It looks bad from the pictures we are getting.

We would remove the nut and fill the "hole" with lobster, crab or shrimp. Very yummy!

To kept the "guac" from turning brown, have it in a bowl and pour water on top of it. The water keeps the air out and prevents the "browning".

One side of the island is too shallow.. ok for dinghies but thats it... the other side is after the entrance into the Quarantine anchorage/mooring/small docking area

Probably a bit late to be warning avocados are rumoured to be very fattening...

Wishing everyone affected by this storm the best.

I just love that even facing a massive storm
you can still find humor and spend your energy trying to stuff away as much good (and cheap) food as possible!

Good luck! Hold on tight!

Re: All Cyclone Pam threads merged to here

Boatie,

Actually, from the angle on the bures on Iririki, and from what I remember of the waterfront, I think those boats were put in in that cutout past the new hotel,
just before you get to the breakwall that fronts the public market? See the green stuff on the other side of it in back of the boats? Whaddaya think?

**********

The news here says that re-establishing communications is a number one priority, and Aus is ready to send aid. Imagine the runway has to be cleared, too.

NO TIES: wishing you and yours well!
