Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand

Ive recently noticed that the waters around NZ are somewhat rougher than the Med (haha, caught in 30kt winds,1.5m waves at full sail...scary for me!)

I have little sailing experience, only a dozen or so assisted trips in the Med (Greek islands) but Ive now taken a leap and bought myself my first yacht a 23ft bilge keeler (Alan Wright) ... Does anyone have any experience ; advice and tips for sailing the bays around Abel Tasman national park in NZ?

I used to live their and cruise in a 32ft Alan Wright when I was a kid.

Plenty of good bays to anchor in and in the summer the afternoon sea breeze can be banked on. How far up the Abel Tasman have you traveled so far?

It does get a bid shallow when you head further north towards Farewell spit but thats a bit of a hike.

Awaroa is nice. but its a LONG day sail from Nelson. Torrent bay is an easy 4-5hr sail from Nelson and there is heaps to see from the dinghy once you get there.
