Re: A little wind

FWIW:

I notice that the BC met folks have introduced a new player in that ever popular game of "lets change the units" for barometric pressure. We now have inches of mercury, mm of mercury, cm of mercury, Bar, milliBar, hecto pascals, and now for your viewing pleasure, kilo pascals. Where will it end???

Cheers,

Jim

Actually this change happened back in the early 80's when all of North America was supposed to adopt the metric system. However we guilable Canadians went whole hog into the conversion while our southern neighbors decide to opt out. We are now left holding the bag with measurement systems that seem to cover every concievable combination. It is an absolute PITA.

Yeah. That was one of our better practical jokes. We couldn't believe you guys up north fell for it.

Hook, line and sinker.

(If it's any consolation, the Mexicans fell for it too.)

I was looking at the wave period report on that bouy and thinking at least that's not to tight. remember being in a nasty blow i didnt count the frequency but i thought if ut gets faster were screeed and now sitting in a berth 12 seconds seems ok. Some where there us a chart that puts frequency and height in proportion. I out a power boat into a 3 to 4 meter wave with a frequency count if about 3 seconds. I counted then. It was 1 2 3 blam white out hold breath 3 4 theres the bouy blam again. Maybe that's 5 second frequency. Glad I'm not there.

A little wind...lol there is some good ole unstatement for you. I liked passage weather when we were travelling. Great addition to the boats weather watching person's tool. Take care out there.

How many metric crap loads to a sh*t ton, I wonder? It's a unit of political metaphor, I believe.

Re: A little wind

I was told that God put ten fingers on our hands so we would use the base 10 system. Counting on ones fingers would make cents.

Speaking of the metric system, quoted from Wikipedia:

Quote:
According to the American Central Intelligence Agency's Factbook, the International System of Units is the official system of measurement for all nations in the world except for Myanmar, Liberia, and the United States.[3]
