A Green Olympics

From the New York Times, comes word that the upcoming Summer Olympic Games has something special to offer in the sailing competition:

"To Save Olympic Sailing Races, China Fights Algae

EyePress, via Associated Press

"A barge at Qingdao, site of the Olympic sailing regatta in August, was surrounded by algae last week. The Chinese have begun a huge cleanup effort.

"BEIJING — With less than six weeks before it plays host to the Olympic sailing regatta, the city of Qingdao, China, has mobilized thousands of people and an armada of small boats to clean up an algal bloom choking the coastline and threatening to impede the competition."

This is gonna be a fun Olympics... The best result the Chinese can get is "The Olympics Were OK." The worst result is, "The Olympics Were a Disaster and the Chinese are Incompetent."

Lots o' downside risk IMO.

That's a lot of algae! Trouble is, unless they get rid of the nutrients in the water that are fueling the bloom, it'll likely come right back.

Hmmm. I wonder if you can stir fry algae?
