I asked the kids to help name our PDQ. I told them it was our second house and that a lot of people use the word cat in the name.

We couldn't use the one they came up with

We change it to Doghouse. Appropriate on several levels.

We named ours Dear Prudence after the beautiful Beatles tune of the same name.

Mine is Andromeda. Explanation below:

s/v Andromeda: The Name

No issues hailing marinas on VHF but every bridge tender asks for a spelling.

Re: Your boat's name

I just bought a little boat that came with the name "Utopia." I think I'll keep it.

Now trying to think up a fitting name for its tiny tender, which I'm building. . . .

Octopus' Garden would probably work too.

We kept the name of our current boat "pardon YOU" she is a nice fast boat up wind & loves a good starboard tack.
Our cruising boat will be named after our two kids, "Autumns Wind" and our dingy, "Aydens Speed"

I agree with keeping it simple & clean. There was a boat trying to get a local Marina. The man after spelling it 4 or 5 times. The Marina finally gave up and ask what kind of boat... It was funny to hear, that man was so mad... There was a boat at our Marina during a fishing tourament its name was "ketch me" it had four 350 HP motors. The name made sence to me. Good luck and happy sailing

We named our first boat Tomorrow, because with such hectic lives we were always going to go sailing tomorrow. When we got our current boat we were going to rename her Today, she came with the name Smart Move. Since that kind of summed up our feelings about moving aboard and cruising we kept the name.

just look up the ones that cross your mind:

Office of Science and Technology

I used to be 1 of only 2 boats with mine's name (1 was a small boat). Now there are 8

BTW - no Octopus' Garden at this time

Re: Your boat's name

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but if the boat already has a name and you want to change it, it is a very complicated and involved ceremony involving incantations, rum, and various other things that I can't remember. It is bad luck to change the name of a boat without the proper ceremony.

Re: Your boat's name

I changed the names on both of the boats I'm owned and didn't do any pagan ceremony. I don't think I had any rum on the boat boat I bet I had some beer etc that I drank afterward.

I think the ceremony is more about a reason to party .................. like you need a reason!

Re: Your boat's name

When I bought my latest boat she was named "Born Free"
how 70's!
That name won't stay.
When we got confirmation of purchase, we were out at a local Blues club featuring one of our favorite local blues artist Jack deKeyser.
So, the name "Jack" came to us and it stuck.
Shortly after a popular politician of that name died. so to avoid confusion
we first thought of "Not That Jack", but we eventually settled on "Whiskey Jack"

Re: Your boat's name

"Gandy Dancer: for the job I had during high school summers, never boring, always physical.
"Barefootin" to remember a special time in my life.
"Iris M" after my mother.
"Iris" on the theory a boat named after your mother would take good care of you. After 22yrs the theory seems to be valid.

What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.

That explains your battery problems.
