Yacht Lost, Solo Sailor Swims Ashore (2Kms)

Yacht wrecked (and lost) on reef, epirb activated, 73 year old solo sailor washed overboard and swims (was blown?) 2 kilometres ashore in storm at night. Dog (wearing lifejacket) still missing.

Evidently, his yacht was later found beached a few kilometres north of where he was discovered.

Yes, latest TV news has him staying with the boat and both him and the boat are washed ashore.

Yeah. Glad he stayed with his boat -- and there was an island nearby and he was lucky enough to drift into it.

Early reports often get details wrong, but he got something right.

Yes, you are right although the island was pretty big .

Other local reports still have some confusion as to whether he stayed with the boat or if he and the boat was blown ashore separately; hopefully he will make a definitive statement soon.

Yeah... a Hobart to Darwin delivery would have made it a circumnav for sure.. could not find anything tho'...
Seems a good country to be a delivery skipper in tho'... lotsa boats needing moving and long hauls between ports..

Great news and quite astonishing that a 73 year old pulled that swim off, especially in those sort of conditions. It just goes to show ... never give up! Just a pity about his dog too.
