Yacht Insurance

We are Canadian, based in Canada with our yacht in Holland.
Pantaenius have just informed us their underwriters are unable to insure us any longer as Canada is outside their licensed territory! (Whatever that means!)
We have never made a claim!
I think I have read a similar situation in a previous post, but I am unable to find it
Any ideas for replacing this insurance would be appreciated

Re: Yacht Insurance

We use an insurance broker in the US. We are an Aussie flagged vessel in US waters. They swap out insurance providers as we travel around. This way they can find the best insurance first us specifically tailored to each region.

The days of a single global yacht insurer seem to be over.

We have a good relationship with our broker, who specialise in yacht insurance. We Alamo provide them with regular status updates of the vessel condition, updates and sea worthiness.

Re: Yacht Insurance

Similar story going around. UK boat can't get hull insurance outside of the EU. Even worse if you're single-handed.

Our UK registered boat is in New Zealand. Our local broker found us a good deal for hull insurance 3 years ago with UK-based insurance broker (Velos) and insurance firm (Global Yacht Cover, ultimately underwritten by Lloyd’s). At the time it seemed there were several companies that would cover us. But recently we received a renewal with a huge increase, so we asked our broker to find us a better deal and checked ourselves. Short story, there is only one (that is, 1) company in the whole world that will give us hull insurance now - the one we’re with. Every other company that could cover us due to location can’t because of our flag, and those companies that could cover our flag can’t due to our location. Several companies suggested we change our registration, but of course that won’t help once we’re permanently offshore. They do cover single handers with sufficient (?) experience.

Re: Yacht Insurance

Check out this recent thread for more information:

Recommendations needed for an Aussie insurance company - Aust Pantaenius useless

Pantaenius (any European branch) and Y Yacht insurance (and very likely other insurance companies) are not renewing policies for Aussie and NZ boats.
