yeah, they checked the damage and it was too bad, so they made up this fairytale so insurance pays the bill.

Lightly built, fin keel, spade or skeg hung rudder. Probably cracked something which then worked when they got out into a seaway and started leaking. More a reflection on how these things are built than anything else.

no boat is made to withstand impact with rocks. even metal ones give up. If you want to go upwind better than cat, you better learn marine skills real well as mono that can do that is inherently non-seaworthy.

145 feet deep and unable to be salvaged? Anyone want to take a dive with some airbags?

Was the root cause trying to navigate at night? In pitch black it is much more difficult to do a lot of things. Navigating a boat in the dark is not easy.

Trying to navigate at night can be a contributing factor, but is without a doubt not the root cause.

First, it hit the reef, then started taking on water. Want to bet it's the same failure method as the Jeanneau and Blue Pearl?

At least it is not a major hazard to navigation.

POS boat?

Easy in hindsight, but do we know how hard a grounding it was?

Would you have the boat slipped and surveyed after any grounding?

I've never owned a boat with a bolt on keel, (my mono was steel) so not sure just how paranoid you'd need to be.

Well wtf yesss!! if I'm sailing a beneteau and I touch the rocks the least thing come to my mind is to venture offshore without check for damages , now if I'm sailing in a steel boat who cares anyway... heee.
