My latest FIB (Found In Boat) - what is it?

Attachment point for a vang to the boom.
The 2 sheet metal 'hooks' grab the boom track on either side of the sail, the cast triangle thingy is where the block and tackle attach.
With this you don't need to drill holes or weld things to your boom.

The club I belong to had one on a boat, Columbia 26 if I recally correctly. Worked OK except the thing would slide in towards the gooseneck if it was banging around and not tensioned.

I think it might be a way of attaching a "boom brake". Used in a similar way that Adelie suggests, but used to limit the boom from swinging across in a gybe.

Agree w/above. It is for attaching a a soft boom vang.
