wonder what others pay for liability insurance

Since all marinas in california require liability insurance for at least 300,000 I was wondering what others are paying ?

Just liability insurance.

Re: wonder what others pay for liability insurance

I conducted an insurance survey a few months go. Included liability only results, and had some data on costs, location and insurers. My net access is sketchy, so I can't repost, but if search here you should be able to find it. It might help.

Re: wonder what others pay for liability insurance

My entire bill including coverage for the boat and uninsured boater coverage is about $1600 per year. I can't break it down for you but since you apparently need insurance, you could just go ahead and get a few quotes.

My liability coverage is $300K and a separate umbrella policy brings it to one million dollars.

Realistically, you could easily reach a million dollars or more by killing or injuring someone or setting a marina on fire. If you own anything of value or ever hope to, liability insurance is a must. It's also the responsible thing to do.

Re: wonder what others pay for liability insurance

I do.
500.000 coverage (in euros) and I only own a daysailer.

When you break it down to monthly, as thomm225 mentioned, it´s not that much and is damn reassuring that you will not end up loosing everything you have, in case something happens...

Re: wonder what others pay for liability insurance

I used Harbour Marine Insurance in Toronto. They have a special policy for old boats of low value and does not require a survey. The whole package is $350 per year with $2,000,000 liability. That amount is what's required at local marinas here now. Previously, I had liability coverage under my home-owners policy for $1,000,000 with no extra charge.

Progressive also has good rates for this. I'd get a quote from them & Boat US/Geico for a baseline.

Here is the thread that Mike OReilly started some months ago:

Lots of responses, including folks to tabulated the data in different ways. Thanks again to Mike for pulling this together.

Re: wonder what others pay for liability insurance

With Pantaenius, Just paid this last week £297 for single handed, round the world cover. I have to tell them which area I'm in, ie. Panama to New Zealand and they send immediately an email to confirm my cover. Whilst they do not do "no claims discount" on this, neither di they put the premium up each year, its been the same for the last 6 years. I have had no experience of making a claim from them but have heard good repo from others who have. At this price, with a world wide recognised firm, its certainly good even just for peace of mind, plus most marinas insist on such cover.

Re: wonder what others pay for liability insurance

Been getting quotes today for liability only in the W Carib. For $1M they all are about $1K per year for $1M, and about $800 for $500K.
