Why is a Boat Called a She ???

Question: Why is a boat called a "SHE" ?

1) She never shows her bottom,

2) She always heads for the boy's.

3) It takes a good man to handle her,

4) She carries her precious cargo inside her,

5) She delivers her precious cargo.

6) It takes a good lick of paint to keep her looking good.

Any one else like to add to this? this should be good.

I always thought it was because if you called it 'Him' you'd be getting ready to take a ride on a penis. I reckon that would not have been the intended desire of many sailors back in the day....

Because you gotta treat her like a lady, otherwise she'll leave you stranded, take all yer stuff and run off with Davy Jones.

I have a book that says something to the effect that the gods would only want to be so rudely interrupted by a woman (interrupted was in reference to the launching of the ship into their waters).

It's interesting that a boat got to be called a 'she', since it used to be considered bad luck for a female to be onboard...lol

Not always

My last yacht was "George Bass". Posed the occasional moment of confusion I must say. Local tourist ferry was also "George Bass" - even more confusing on other occasions.

Can at least be thankful that even though boats are "shes" they can't talk.

When I used to do yacht deliveries I would tell the delivery crew that;
… a boat is called a she… because we all sit down to pee.

(The guys, who were throwing up in the head, really appreciated that!)

That works for me to Gord:

"...a boat is called an it...... because we all sit down to.....

Think I may have been in Asia too long

A 22 year Navy vet here... I was stationed on ships with men's names (e.g. USS Nimitz), but the crew still referred to her as 'She'....

Re: Why is a Boat Called a She ???

She will take every last penny you have, and you will still be grateful.

Nothing else will take you to the places she can take you.

She can be demanding, but is completely worth it.
