It's still in the bow and probably the worst place to be if your bouncing around.

Re: Why do Vee Berths Exist?
I like the layout of the HC. The head is in the V and with a pullman berth aft of it. Although with our boat, the biggest drawback I see with our pullman is lack of air flow while at anchor. A fan is a must on warm nights since there isn't a hatch above us like a typical V berth.

So, Now you tell me! My two were also V-berth products and I had to buy a bigger boat as they kept growing. I guess I could have stayed in a smaller boat if it didn't have that bouncing V-berth!

Re: Why do Vee Berths Exist?
V is for Visitor. The V-berth is not meant to be comfortable for longer than 3 days. It is put as far forward as it can go so that the occupants are completely airborne in even moderate chop. Happy couples start squabbling after the second night because of the limited foot room.

If you're bouncing around that much, put some back cushions on the cabin sole for the night. You may well be working in shifts anyway. Lots of times, though, the vee berth is a comfy, cozy place to sleep. On many boats it's no place for anyone who is claustrophobic because it has lower ceiling, but I love mine.

They vary so much, though. On mine, there's a hatch right over it that's perfet for a wind scoop.

But that also depends on how you sleep - not everyone sleeps fully stretched out.

Re: Why do Vee Berths Exist?
my pullman berth abaft my forepeak has its own overhead hatch and is quite lovely in anchorages with a breeze--keep sun of coachhouse and is comfy in summer....until the heat comes, which, here, is august and sept.
our named storms come then also, so it is definitely marina weather....
forepeak in these boats is for Visitors or tools and work room use/storage

Re: Why do Vee Berths Exist?
My nephew's V-berth on his Catalina 22 has little in common with the V-berth on my Morgan 41. My V-berth narrows from nine feet wide to almost thee feet wide with a six and one half foot length. I've never been tossed about in my V-berth; in fact, it's very comfortable as an offshore berth because I can sleep full length at any compass point.

My V-berth is also the salon. Just drop the table and use filler cushions, I got a nice sized sleeping area. I would say it's about 7' in length. Perfect as I'm 6'5". I also have 2 quarter berths that is good size for me too. Not bad for a 27' boat.

I also have a hatch over my v-berth. I've slept a few nights on my boat and the cool wind through the hatch is very welcome during the night.
