Why do Vee Berths Exist?
real question: Why do vee berths exist on small boats, for example, a Catalina 27?
I personally have not seen a vee berth on a small boat in person, but when I see them in pictures, they don't look big enough to accommodate anyone beyond a child. If this is the case, why not use this space for stowage?

Re: Why do vee berths exist?
the vee berth on my 26ft yacht is possitively luxurious!
one thing on small yachts that has to be considered is the weight distribution, and access to the anchor locker so storage up against the fwd bulkhead is not really an option as most anchor wells on small boats are not self bailing and are accesed by a door from the inside of the fwd cabin, with the rode running out through a dedicated hawse hole in the deck.
under bunk storage is great for sails, and as they are generally on the boom or forestay when sailing their weight does not effect the trim.

V-berths exist so you have a place to store your sails.

with the addition of a center section you have a big double on the stb side.

So that single sailors have somewhere to sleep that they can actually spread out in. Most times that you try and sleep two in there you need medical assistance next morning to untangle your feet.
Coops.
