Who's Reupholstered Their Cushions ?

sunbrella style is nice for the price, Vinyl is too sticky in warm wx and cold in cold wx. If you do your own, consider just velcro in lieu of zipper.... much easier. One thought, just take your cushion covers to a sewing shop and ask how much to duplicate them in Sunbrella that you provide. Boat upholstery people tend to be more expensive, most do a great job, but in the end unless you have an exquisite yacht.... probably not worth it.

As for the do it yourself part, we have 16 cushions on our boat, not one of which is a simple straight box and I am a pretty decent with a sewing machine,but it still took me 90 hours from start to finish to redo all our cushions.

The project would have gone much quicker if it weren't for the bull nose design of our horizontal cushions. If you look closely in the picture, you can see the bulbous leading edge in some of the cushions. The bull nose looks really nice, but each cushion that has it is actually two cushions in one, which obviously requires a lot more work.

The fabric we used is furniture grade stuff from an internet upholstery shop and cost us $14 a yard. The whole project used just over 15 yards and with miscellaneous pieces and parts, we have $250 invested in the project.

As an aside, we have three weasels (ferrets) that live on board with us and the the fabric has shown no signs of wear from their little weasel feet.

I used Sunbrella on my salon cushions about 3 years ago and it is badly worn now. It is used in a live aboard application and gets daily usage. Next time I'll go with Ultrasuede or something that is likely to last longer.

Hello

I had a powerboat with parts done with MAJILITE
It was really poor fabric, very sensitive, all colors changed after 2 years.
for me it's ******** with very good people in marketing
I don't know why people said it's good fabric.

I reupholstered my boat with sunbrella but cushions collection not marine/
sunbrella is acrylic 100% dyed the only fiber for yachting.

OK- about ten years ago, HWMO and I reupholstered our lounge furniture. Naturally, we chose fabric designed for that - and it claimed to be stain resistant too. Ten years on, with a pack of dogs (usually three at any one time) doing their thing, it is still as good as new.

We bought an entire roll with the intention of doing the boat when we were ready. It cost $250, and there was shitloads on the roll (I can't remember how long it was, tho) - we have so far done two lounge sets (two three piecers, a two piece and four one pieces), a foreberth and a quarterberth, and the main cabin. We have tons left over now for things like lee cloths etc.

Good bargain, or what?
