Who's Been to Palmyra?
Has anyone on here been to Palmyra? I know it's supposed to be absolutely beautiful but very, very remote... and I've even heard that it's haunted or cursed!
What's the real deal?

Re: Who's Been to Palmyra?
Friends of ours left there because she felt bad vibes. Their friends stayed. The friends were slain, the remains some fed to sharks, some buried ashore. Our friends' friends boat was stolen. It was re-painted, sailed into Hawaii, and reported, and the people aboard charged and convicted of piracy. A terrible deal for the ones who left; even more terrible for the bloke who was hacked up with a machete.
Haunted? ?Quien sabe?

Re: Who's Been to Palmyra?
As Ann said, the place has a macabre history, although this event was more than 40 years ago now.
Vincent Bugliosi wrote a book about it called And the Sea Will Tell. He was the lawyer defending the wife of the couple accused of murder. The book is essentially in 2 parts .... the first half being about the island and how the events unfolded, and the second about the trial. I found the book a compelling read, with a lot of detail and many pages.
If you want to understand what the place is like it would be worthwhile to get it. There was also a low budget movie made with the same name, but this was only available on VHS.
Edit: Lake Superior posted while I was composing my post.

Re: Who's Been to Palmyra?
You think Palmyra is bad.
There is a small Island off the west coast of the UK with a pub on it. They charge 4 pounds a pint!
Dont visit!

Being on the edge of the circular pacific currents, near the equator, there is a lot of trash on the beaches there.
Not much of an island. Water is scare and sharks in the atoll.

Make sure you get prior approval first. They only allow 2 yachts at a time.

bugliosis book is what drew me to the idea of ever visiting the island, but i have heard there is a conservancy one must contact for permission to visit....

Zee, the Nature Conservancy controls access to Cooper Island. The rest is controlled by the US Fish and Wildlife service. It's in my link 3 posts up.
